Dueling Photo Ops

At the same time Barrack H. Obama was posing with Benjamin Netanyahu in nothing more than a photo-op, three US Senators were in Israel attempting to reassure the Jews that America really is their friend. John McCain, Joe Lieberman, and Lindsey Graham met with Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barack, and focused on America's commitment to keep Iran from completing its nuclear program.

'US will attack Iran if it must'
By HERB KEINON AND LAHAV HARKOV 07/07/2010 12:11

After a meeting with Defense Minister Ehud Barak in Jerusalem at the David Citadel Hotel on Wednesday, US Senators John McCain, Joseph Lieberman and Lindsey Graham held a press conference where they spoke about several pressing foreign policy issues in the region.
Senator Lieberman used some very harsh language at the Wednesday press conference to describe the Iranian nuclear program, saying the US must do everything it can to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power. The US will address the Iranian threat "through diplomatic efforts and economic sanctions if we can, but through military action if we must," said Lieberman.
The statement made by Senator Lieberman is encouraging in the sense that there exits, within the US Senate, a strong consensus that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. However, this trio was also strongly in favor of following then General Stanley McCrystal's push for 40,000 more troops in Afghanistan. Of course, the General did not get his wish. President Obama stalled, dithered, and ignored the request for months. When he finally felt the heat to tackle the issue, he came up way short of what the number of troops requested, all to show his generals that HE was in charge and would do things HIS way.
For the Senators to state that America will use military force against Iran "if we must," presumes that the Community-Organizer-In-Chief will agree with their definition of "must." Somehow, I do not believe the COIF and these Senators speak the same language.
