A Whole Lot a Shakin Goin On

The eyes of the world have been locked on Haiti and the devastation caused by the earthquake center five miles beneath Port U Prince. Some many of the images are heart wrenching.

Many naturally ask the question WHY DO SUCH THINGS HAPPEN? A few have stepped forward to give an answer. I wish they hadn't.

One of these is Pat Robertson who blamed the earthquake and its aftermath on Haitians themselves saying "it's because half their population made a pact with the devil instead of converting to Christianity." While his statement has an element of truth to it....Pat missed something important. Jesus called us to be WISE as Serpents and HARMLESS of Doves. Pat missed it on both counts and has needlessly opened the door to ridicule. Thankfully, Christian organizations have been the bulk of the "First Responders" to Haiti, removing most of the credibility of his statement. If this act was a strict judgment against Haiti for half it's citizens making a pact with the devil, why has God punished the half that turned to Christianity? Has Mr. Robertson missed the fact that thousands of believers in Christ perished, or were maimed?

Another blowhole spouted off. Danny Glover proved the idiotic nature of the Global Warming crowd when he blamed the earthquake on the fact that we (the USA) walked out on the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit and others like it. In other words, because man has not done something about climate change, and earthquake smashed Haiti. The stupidity of the statement is only eclipsed by arrogance....arrogance that believes man is in control of his own destiny and can somehow rule the weather.

The Bible tells us the truth of the matter. Every earthquake, every tsunami, every tornado and hurricane, every calamitous event....can be traced back to the action of a man. His name was Adam. He was created to have dominion over the earth as he walked with God. He was told that death would be the result of disobedience. He disobeyed. Death began, not only for man, but for the object of his dominion. Since that day, "the earth has groaned, awaiting the revelation of the heirs of salvation." In fact, the Letter to the Hebrews spells it out rather clearly.

"See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on the earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. At that time, his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, 'YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVENS.' This phrase, indicates the removal of things that are shaken,--that is, things that have been made--in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken..." 12:25-28

We are in the period of Matthew 24 that speaks of an intensifying of natural disasters as the Kingdom of God is about to be birthed. The earth is reeling, not from Global Warming or Climate Change.....and not because of an arbitrary judgment of God. It is reeling because God said it would, and it is only going to continue until Redemption is Complete! So, instead of throwing rocks on the rubble, it might be better to jump in and rescue some people while there is still time.
