Israel About to Be Thrown Under the Bus Obama-Style

Obama Plans to Throw Israel under the Bus at UN
The Obama administration's appeasement of Palestinians continues. The White House is signaling that it would abstain from a Security Council motion condemning Israel for building 1600 houses in a Jewish neighborhood in Jerusalem. Mark Landler of the New York Times reports that "George Mitchell's deputy, David Hale, indicated to the Palestinians that if Israel proceeded with the construction of 1,600 housing units in Jerusalem's ultra-orthodox neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo, the United States would abstain from, rather than veto, a resolution in the United Nations Security Council condemning the move."
Obama also reportedly has promised Abbas a prolonged Israeli settlement freeze in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Army Radio reported earlier on Sunday quoting London-based Al-Hayat. According to the report, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told the Arab League ministers Saturday night that Obama made his promise off the record to avoid conflict with right-wing factions in Israel.
Palestinian sources confirm that Israel has committed to continuing the moratorium on settlement construction in the West Bank beyond the original ten months Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared last December. PM Benjamin Netanyahu has denied this.An emboldened Mahmoud Abbas is taking a hard line in the run up to the opening of indirect talks, apparently believing that the United States will back his positions: He announced that he wants to renew the PA's activity in Jerusalem in the now-closed Orient House and the Palestinian Trade Bureau in the eastern part of the city and to return, within a few months, to the situation that we had before the Intifada, with gradual and significant additions of territory that will be transferred to full Palestinian control," he told Al Ayam.
