Awakenings and Bonfires

What a whirlwind... Last week we had the "Third Great Spiritual Awakening in America" led by a Mormon. This week, a Baptist pastor plans to have a Koran-fueled bonfire.
Talk about things being out of whack....or maybe whacked out!
First, the spiritual awakening.
August 28, Glen Beck led a rally from the Lincoln Memorial that boasted over 500,000 people in attendance and featured several evangelical, catholic, and Jewish leaders as speakers.
Who could help but be stirred as everyone spoke of turning our nation back to God, honor, faith, hope, and charity.
The problem is....which God are we trying to turn to? The god of Mormonism is quite different than the God of the Bible. The Jesus Christ of Mormonism (a created being) is completely different than the Jesus Christ of the Bible....the eternal creator of the universe, preeminent ruler, and sacrificial savior who is soon to come back to the planet. The closest things to unity on August 28th were the prayers offered by evangelicals and Jews...to Jehovah, but then, not even Jesus was recognized as the Son of God across the board.
My Question: How can a true spiritual awakening be so bipolar? The nation will either be led to the ONE TRUE GOD and his Son, Jesus Christ, or it will be a politically-contrived, schizophrenic mess.
Then comes the Koran burning. "My God! How far have we fallen into foolishness?" This preacher, the Rev. Terry Jones, went so far as to say that Jesus would have burned the Koran. Pardon me? I don't recall Jesus burning the scrolls of any religion, and there were plenty. Zoroastrianism for one, was a mixture of diaspora-Judaism and astrology. It was one of those mixed religions of works, much like Islam. Did Jesus burn a scroll? A parchment? Did he knock down a monolith? hmmm
And what about Muslims? Talk about anti-evangelism! Is burning a pile of Korans any way at all to have a discussion with a Muslim (most of whom are willing to discuss the difference between Christianity and Islam with an open heart)? Boom! Let's just slam the door on a billion people who are deceived. Click! That's the sound of the gates of Hell being locked! LET'S SHUT 'EM OUT with a good ole book burning.
Yes, I believe Islam is a lie of Satan, one of many. NO, Islam is not another way to the Father in heaven, and Allah is not Jehovah. But, for crying out loud, Muslims must be reached with the gospel, not a bonfire.
All the Reverend Jones is doing is applying a hardening agent to the hearts of millions of Muslims who might have otherwise listened to a humble, kind, and loving believer in Christ as he gave a clear witness to the truth.
Whoosh! Out the window!
I guess you now know how I feel about the third spiritual awakening and the burning of the Koran. But I challenge you to find a hole in my sound reasoning.

Jews Have No History in Jerusalem

This headline is an accurate description of the mindset of the Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim leadership around the world. This distortion of history is what fuels the rabid insistence that Jerusalem is a Muslim City and Jews are the occupiers.Palestinian firebrands like Sheikh Salah and Shamekh Alawneh, and Sheik Tayseer Rajab fills the heads of their people with this deliberately counter-factual message so they will get the young people into the streets of Jerusalem throwing stones and participating in other forms of violence. The de-Judiaizing of Jerusalem is similar to the dehumanizing of Jews by the Nazis. If you effectively and persistently repeat the Big Lie you can distort the truth in the minds of millions.
In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Bari Weiss points out that the Koran and other Muslim traditions acknowledge an ancient Jewish presence in Jerusalem: The Koran, which references many biblical stories and claims figures like Abraham as Islamic prophets, also acknowledges the existence of the Jewish temples. The historian Karen Armstrong has written that the Koran refers to Solomon's Temple as a "great place of prayer" and that the first Muslims referred to Jerusalem as the "City of the Temple." Martin Kramer, a historian who has combed through Koranic references to the temples in Arabic, notes surra 34, verse 13, which discusses Solomon's building process: "They [jinn/spirits] worked for him as he desired, (making) arches, images, basins large as wells, and (cooking) cauldrons fixed (in their places)."

There is still more recent official Muslim acknowledgment of Jerusalem's Jewish history--a booklet put out in 1924 by the Supreme Muslim Council called "A brief guide to al-haram al-sharif." Al-haram al-sharif, the Arabic name for the Temple Mount, is currently the site of the Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa mosque. It is, according to Islamic tradition, where Muhammad ascended to heaven.

Yet it is also, according to the council's booklet, a site of uncontested importance for the Jews. "The site is one of the oldest in the world. Its sanctity dates from the earliest (perhaps from pre-historic) times. Its identity with the site of Solomon's Temple is beyond dispute." And the booklet quotes the book of Samuel: "This, too, is the spot, according to the universal belief, on which 'David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt offering and peace offerings.'" Later, the booklet says the underground structure known as King Solomon's Stables probably dates "as far back as the construction of Solomon's Temple." Citing the historian Flavius Josephus, it claims the stables were likely used as a "place of refuge by the Jews at the time of the conquest of Jerusalem by Titus in the year 70 A.D."

Dr. Gerald Steinberg ends his article "Jerusalem: We win, you lose" in the Jerusalem Post with this important piece of advice to so-called peace-makers and funders of the Palestinians: "As long as the Arab and Muslim position slams the door to block Jewish history, Jerusalem will remain a battleground in which the Jewish nation will no choice but to use force when necessary to defend these rights."

With the recent statement by the Quartet (led by the Obama Administration) that the Palestinians should accelerate the establishment of institutions for governing based on the 1967 borders it is clear that the division of Jerusalem is on the agenda of the United states, Germany, Russia, ..etc. Will they be able to get it done in some fashion or another? We shall see.

Sweet Talk and Misquotation

The deed is done. The speech has been made. It can't be retracted, it can hardly be interpreted. Sweet, honey-dripping words flowed from the mouth of the President, and all the world drank it in.

I am of the humble opinion that massive mistakes were made. For one, in the very use of the term "Muslim World," President Obama gave credence to existence of all Muslims, radicals included. Of course, he doesn't do that with Christianity. The only valid Christianity for Obama is his watered-down, liberation theology flavored religion. There is no place for right-wingers. No place for fundamentalists. They are a dangerous, practically terrorist off shoot of the real thing. (Have you noticed how they are attempting to pin the murder of John Tiller--abortion doctor--to the fundamentalist wing of Christianity?) Worse, Obama gave them the connection they were looking for. Here's what I mean:

Remember that in Islam, to have Islamic roots, then turn to Christianity, is punishable by death. Obama all but said his roots were Islamic, but that he was a Christian. What an invitation for derision and attack! It was a complete revelation of weakness.

President Obama then quoted the Koran in his speech. (Amazing that a Christian would validate the Koran by quoting it.) But even then, he did not quote the whole passage. What he said was totally out of Koranic context. Here is what he said;

"The Holy Koran teaches that whoever kills an innocent, it is as if he has killed all mankind; and whoever saves a person, it is as if he has saved all mankind." Yusufali 5:32

I really find it odd that neither Obama nor any of his advisers realized that the meaning of verse 32 is not clear until it is quoted together with verse 33 which follows it. Here is the whole of YUSUFALI 5:32; "On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our messengers with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land."

What the verse is actually talking about is that if any child of Israel slays a Muslim, then he has slain all Muslims, meaning it becomes the right of all Muslims to take retribution. That is exactly what is said in the next verse, verse 33. Here it is:

"The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter." Yusafali 5:33

Obama then challenged Israel to change the way it deals with Palestinians (Muslims), and that the current form of Israeli administration is "intolerable." By quoting this half-verse, then chastising Israel, Obama has given a great big American NOD for jihadists to step up their attacks on Israel.....and for Iran to develop nuclear weapons and use them.

I'm sorry. We have a President that is either ignorant, or bent on bringing destruction to Israel and the United States. Worse, it is probably a combination of both. We not only need to pray for Israel, we need to do what Daniel did....REPENT on behalf of the sins of our people and leader.
