New Developments in the Middle East

Two interesting developments in the continuing saga of the Middle East have found their way to the light today. The first involves two important nations that have had major diplomatic blockages, but both are listed in the Psalm 83 prophecies. As you recall, Psalm 83 and Isaiah 17 list names of nations that will become allied in a war against Israel. Saudi Arabia (Ishmaelites), Syria (Amon & Amalek), Lebanon (Gebal, Tyre, Asshur), Jordan (Moab and Edom), and Egypt (the Hagrites) unite to threaten the Israeli's. We know what will happen according to Psalm 83, Jeremiah 12, Ezekiel 25, and Obadiah 15-18; God will use the hand of his people Israel to destroy the attacking nations. I momentary period of security will result, and then the Gog/Magog coalition of Russia, Turkey, Iran, Libya, and the Sudan will descend to the mountains of Israel. For any of this to happen, a long-standing enmity between the Saudis and the Syrians must be resolved. Read this short piece from Ynet News.
Saudi king seeks to mend rift with Syria

The Saudi monarch has arrived in Damascus for a highly significant visit that is the strongest indication yet of thawing relations between the two rival nations following years of tension.
King Abdulla's visit on Wednesday is the first by a Saudi ruler since the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, a close Saudi ally. The two Arab countries have also been at odds over several regional issues, including Syria's close ties with the Shiite Iran. They have recently made moves toward a rapprochement with three meetings between Abdullah and Syrian President Bashar Assad in the past two years. (AP)

'US may be planning to bomb Iran'
By JPOST.COM STAFF

The US could be in the process of accelerating provisions for a possible attack on Iran, according to an ABC News report published Tuesday.

The report cited a recent Pentagon decision to push for funding to build a "gargantuan bunker-busting bomb called the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP)," originally planned for use in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pentagon's 2009 request, which was approved last week, was published by ABC, as well as the previous 2007 request.

To explain why the bomb was needed at this juncture, the Pentagon only said, "The Department has an Urgent Operational Need (UON) for the capability to strike hard and deeply buried targets in high threat environments. The MOP is the weapon of choice to meet the requirements of the UON." ABC noted that the departments which requested the MOP had responsibility over North Korea and Iran.

The report also stated that this weapon would be "ideally suited" for a strike on Iran's uranium enrichment plant at Natanz, or the recently revealed plant at Qom.

US aerospace manufacturer and defense contractor McDonnell Douglas received a $51.9 million contract to build the four MOPs, the report said.
My Opinion
I believe it is highly unlikely that the Obama Administration will actually do anything at all about Iran, but this article does beg the question: "What would happen if the US were to attack Iran instead of waiting for Israel to do it?"
If that ends up being the case, absolutely nothing would change in regards to the coming Psalm 83 war. The Muslim population would still blame Israel. They would continue to ratchet up their attempts to do harm to the Jews and to Americans. Terrorism will increase whether we attack Iran or sit on the sidelines and watch. As it stands, President Obama believes he has won a great victory in forcing Iran to allow inspectors into the unfinished Quom nuclear facility. He will be content to keep talking....That is what he does best....in fact, that is all he does.
I would be the first to stand up and cheer if the American military were to blow the smithereens out of a couple of Iranian hillsides. However, it will not change the course of events that will eventually lead to the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38 and 39. It might slow things down, but then again, it might speed things up.
In the meantime, we should be seeking a new outpouring of boldness and power that comes as the Messiah pours out his Spirit in a latter rain deluge. People are afraid. Everyone knows something is about to happen. Now is the time to be the witness Jesus calls us to be. Go for it!
