Turkish Slide Away from Israel Speeds Up

Even as Israel sought to tamp down tension with Ankara over its decision to refuse IDF participation in a joint military exercise this week, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of using phosphorous bombs on Gaza's children

Then comes a mini-bombshell. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, revealed Tuesday that Turkey and Syria had held military maneuvers last week - the same week Ankara canceled the annual Anatolian Eagle exercise because the IDF was to participate. "One week ago, Syria and Turkey carried out maneuvers near Ankara," Muallem said, according to Al-Jazeera. "This is important because it refutes reports of poor relations between the military and political institutes in Turkey over its strategic relations with Syria."

Muallem's statements came on the very same day that ten Turkish government ministers traveled to Damascus for the first ever meeting of the Turkey-Syria High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

According to a report in the Turkish newspaper Sabah, Erdogan blamed Israel for the cencellation of military exercise by stating, "While in some countries children are provided with comfort, peace, [and] the most advanced education and health opportunities, other children are faced with poverty, destitution, helplessness, war, conflict, weapons of mass destruction and phosphorus bombs. We are forced to heed the sounds of persecution. The slam was against Israel for its action against Palestinians in Gaza during Operation Cast Led last winter. Of course, Erdogan failed to mention the 8000 rockets fired from Gaza into Israeli population centers, or the fact that Hamas used civilians as human shields. He also by-passed the fact that Israel gave warning of the impending operation for nearly four months. I'd call that patience!

Now we discover that Erdogan will visit Damascus in early December as Hamas officials begin to see Turkey's action as an underlined support of the Palestinians. While Israel tries to avoid a spitting match with the Turks, the odds are beginning to stack up against them. Turkey is turning.......rapidly! Look for this turn away from Israel to continue, look for it to be hastened. In the Ezekiel 38 and 39 scenario, Turkey becomes an enemy of Israel.
