Anarchy Opens Door for Iran

The overthrow of the Mubarak regime has left a vacuum in Egypt, and anarchy has left the door wide open for Mahmoud Ahmadenijad to move in.
From the Jerusalem Post:
Iran is working to bolster its weapons-smuggling infrastructure in the Sinai Peninsula as anarchy continues to prevail in Egypt following the toppling of the Mubarak regime earlier this month.
According to information obtained by Israel, Iran has been working to build new infrastructure in the Sinai that can be used to smuggle advanced weaponry in large quantities into the Gaza Strip.
“Iran wants to take advantage of the current anarchy in Egypt and establish a stronger foothold in Gaza,” a senior defense official said. “They are building new capabilities, upgrading smuggling mechanisms and studying the new military presence there to see how it will affect them.”
While weapons have been regularly smuggled into Gaza even before Mubarak’s resignation, the Egyptian security forces were working to crack down on the smuggling efforts by building an underground steel wall and by using American tunnel-detection technology.
One known smuggling route for Iranian weapons to Hamas begins in Sudan or Eritrea where ships unload weaponry, which is then loaded onto trucks that travel up through Sudan and Egypt until they arrive at the Gaza-Egypt border. The weaponry is then smuggled into Gaza via one of the hundreds of tunnels along the Philadelphi Corridor.

In addition the concern about an increase in smuggling, Israel also fears that the Sinai will turn into a launch pad for attacks into Israel.
Biblically, these fears expressed by Israel fall right into line with prophecy.
The Egyptian Sinai (part of Solomon's Kingdom) is listed with Gaza and the other countries bordering Israel as being the launch pad for an attempt to annihilate the Jews and retake the land. In other words, the confrontation of Psalm 83 draws ever closer.

This is NOT Democratic Unrest

The current wave of revolution began in Tunisia. The protests were led by women who wanted a bigger piece of political power. It was the closest thing to a democratic revolution in the waves of unrest sweeping North Africa and the Middle East.
Egypt's idealistic youth began the next wave, joined by Christians and Muslims alike. What started as an attempt to bring democratic reforms and oust dictator Mubarak has turned into an elective takeover by the Muslim Brotherhood.
Every ensuing protest movement has taken on the sinister. Bahrain, Yemen, Jordan, Dubai, and Libya....all are being instigated and fueled by Iranian backed Shi'ite movements. Each of those governments is ruled by Sunni Muslims. The two sects are quite different, especially in their eschatology. Both can be extremely violent. Both believe in Jihad of one level or another.
Now, it is beginning in Saudi Arabia.
This just in from Debkafile.
Thursday night, Feb. 24, saw the first signs of unrest in Saudi Arabia with demonstrations by young people demanding reforms of the kingdom's system of government and by Shiites living and working in the kingdom's oil-rich eastern regions. They demonstrated at Awwamiya in Qatif in solidarity with the protests in Libya and Bahrain. They also demanded the release of detainees rounded up by Saudi security authorities among the two million Shiites living and working in the main oil centers of Saudi Arabia to nip potential unrest in the bud.

Friday, in the Red Sea town of Jeddah in the west, a group calling itself "Jeddah Youth for Change staged a demonstration.

The slightest sign of unrest in Saudi Arabia, the world's biggest oil exporter, is bound to affect the price of oil. Iran is the biggest beneficiary of soaring prices. Day after day, as Arab capitals are beset by popular turbulence, Tehran is watching the damage caused its economy by international sanctions shrinking.

However one looks at the situation in the Middle East, it is certain now that the world is in for a roller coaster ride to trouble.
GAS prices could very quickly go through the roof.
The nations that surround Israel WILL eventually fall to radicalism.
Israel will be completely abandoned by the WEST.
The current occupant in the White House will continue to show incredible WEAKNESS.
Jesus will be showing up at any time.
Though the outlook seems bleak, grim, and worrisome, Jehovah is in control, not allah.

Shrugged Shoulders and Missile Launches

Most of us who have parented children understand that if you let a kid get away with doing what you have forbidden, he will soon turn and do something worse. Instead of the kid suffering the consequence of his actions, the parent becomes the sufferer.
So it is with Iran!
Just as the two Iranian warships ported in Syria without either Israelis or the American Naval hindrance, Hamas launched two Iranian-made Grad missiles at the Negev cities of Beersheba and Netivot. Thankfully, Israel's warning system sounded the alarm in time for the occupants of the homes that were hit to make it to the bomb shelters in their basements.
After thirty years, the Iranians were allowed to traverse the Suez Canal. They have been allowed to pursue the construction of uranium processing sites. Their building of nuclear plants, and their progress toward developing nuclear weapons has received little more than a slap on the wrist. With yesterday's actions and non-responses, the Iranians have carte blanche to do as they please.
The puzzle remains: Does the Obama administration not understand that Iran's actions are fully founded upon a religious eschatology that seeks the annihilation of Israel and the destruction of America? Does Obama's inaction come from ineptitude, indifference, or collusion? I confess I know not which, but the end result is written in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39.
As an old preacher used to often say, "The Lord knows!"

A Confessed Radical.....I AM

<-------Dudes a NUT...that is undeniable. Worse, he is a violent megalomaniac, ready to kill as many of his own people necessary to retain his dictatorship. Many say he will not last out the week. I am not so sure, but even if he does, Libya will not turn to democracy.
A wave of radicalism is sweeping Northern Africa and the Middle East. Shi'ite is battling Sunni. Jihad against Jihad. Radical against Radical. The enemies of Israel are fighting themselves. It is incredible to see.
That is why I believe it is time to stand up and declare, "I am a RADICAL!"
Really, I confess. I am a radical.
Car bombs and sticks of dynamite aside, I am a radical. I won't blow you up. I won't aim a rocket at you. I won't stab you, lie to you, or blow smoke in your face, but I AM a radical.
I follow no Imam, have no Mullah pulling me along by promises of virgins and paradise, and do not listen to the crazy Ayatollah's on religious television.
I follow a King, revealed to the world as a carpenter/itinerant preacher. He was known for his meekness and compassion. He healed and touched and blessed until he dropped, or rather, was tacked to a post and suspended between heaven and earth. He jumped down no well to hide from his enemies. Instead, he stood before the silent, quiet as a lamb to slaughter, and allowed them to humiliate, scourge, and crucify him. That was radical!
I'm a radical because He is a living radical. Risen from the dead! Alive! Seated on the throne awaiting the day when it will be time to say "ENOUGH" to man and his evil.
My radical King is coming soon....he's coming for those he has radically changed! It is written in the Book. It is true.
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout of command, the voice of an archangel, and the trumpet call of God. And the dead radicals will rise first, and we radicals who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with him in the atmosphere, and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
I AM A RADICAL!
Are you?
The time to make a choice has arrived.

Two Iranian Warships Enter Suez Canal

ASSOCIATED PRESS
02/22/2011

CAIRO — Two Iranian naval vessels entered the Suez Canal on Tuesday en route to Syria, officials said, the first time in three decades that Tehran has sent military ships through the strategic waterway.

Canal officials said the ships — a frigate and a supply vessel — are expected to reach the Mediterranean later in the day.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman made clear last week that the passage was seen a provocation, but Israeli officials had no immediate comment Tuesday.

The canal linking the Red Sea and the Mediterranean enables ships to avoid a lengthy sail around Africa.

The Iranian ships are headed for a training mission in Syria. In Syria, officials at the Iranian embassy said it would mark the first time in years that Iranian warships dock in a Syrian port.

The ships paid about $300,000 in fees for the passage, according to a Maritime agent. The officials all spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

Iran's request to send the warships through the Suez Canal came at a particularly difficult time for Egypt as the nation's new military rulers try to focus on pressing domestic issues, including restoring security after the uprising that ousted longtime leader Hosni Mubarak.

The military rulers apparently had no choice but to grant the ships passage because an international convention regulating shipping says the canal must be open "to every vessel of commerce or of war." Egypt also cannot search naval ships passing through the waterway.

Iranian warships have not passed through the Suez Canal since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Is a confrontation at sea about to happen between Isreal and Iran? The probabilities are climbing.

Poison Behind the Veto

You could say it's all said and done, and all we are awaiting is the singing of the rotund female vocalist!
The Obama administrations carried through on Saturday with a veto of a UN Security Council draft resolution condemning Israel for settlements in the "occupied" territory...namely the West Bank and Jerusalem.
I need not walk through the three thousand year history in which Jerusalem has been recognized by the world as the Jewish capital. Nor must I go step by step through the scriptures pointing out David's initial conquest of the city and God's proclamations as Jerusalem being the apple of his eye. WE ALL KNOW IT!
Apparently the Obama regime has chosen to ignore what we all know. Behind UN Ambassador Susan Rice's veto of the resolution came some stunning words that show the exact course Obama is on..... to draw Israel into a war so that it will be subdued. Read Rice's own words in exercising the US veto.
"Our opposition to the resolution before this Council today should therefore not be misunderstood to mean we support settlement activity. On the contrary, we reject in the strongest terms the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity. For more than four decades, Israeli settlement activity in territories occupied in 1967 has undermined Israel's security and corroded hopes for peace and stability in the region. Continued settlement activity violates Israel's international commitments, devastates trust between the parties, and threatens the prospects for peace."
Remember, she is talking about Jerusalem. In 1967, when the Arab nations attempted to wipe Israel off the map, the IDF achieved a miraculous victory which included the retaking of Jerusalem. Obama will soon demand that Israel return to the pre 1967 borders and give up Jerusalem to the peace-loving, gentle Arabs so they can worship freely on their holy sites, which of course, they now control completely.
No more Bill O'Reilly styled excuses for what Barack Obama is doing! NO, he doesn't mean well. But lest I become to frustrated with this leadership and slip into the political slime, it is God who raises up rulers for his own times and purposes. As much as it grates me to see what is spewing from Washington, I believe God's final purposes are being engineered by the Almighty.
Fasten your seat belt and hang on tight. Things are going to get wild.

Iranian Warships & Missiles to Transit Suez Canal

As per my blog on Feb. 17th, it appears Netanyahu's mistake of entrusting the Egyptian military with preventing Iranian warships to pass through the Suez Canal is about to have its first consequence.
Israel has learned that the Iranian cruiser Kharg is carrying long-range missiles for Hizballah, along with a support frigate, plans to unload it's deadly Hezbollah-destined cargo at a Syrian port or Beirut harbor.

US State Department spokesman P.J Crowley said he was "highly skeptical" of the Syrian claim that the two ships' visit was for training. "If the ships move through the canal, we will evaluate what they actually do. It's not really about the ships. It's about what the ships are carrying, what's their destination, what's the cargo on board, where's it going, to whom and for what benefit," Crowley told a news conference.
The war ships' passage through Suez has been delayed as Cairo and Tehran spar over an Egyptian navy inspection of the vessels' cargoes.

This revelation has left Israel urgently seeking a way to prevent those missiles from reaching Lebanese territory, and outside of a naval confrontation at sea, the task seems all but impossible.

Up until now, Saudi Arabia, in close conjunction with Egypt and its President Hosni Mubarak, led a Sunni Arab partnership built to contain Iranian expansion – especially in the Persian Gulf. However, the opening of a Saudi port to war ships of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a direct result of the fall-out between King Abdullah and President Obama over his mishandling of Egypt, points to a fundamental shift in Middle East trends in consequence of the Egyptian uprising. It was also the first time Cairo has permitted Iranian warships to transit Suez from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, although Israeli traffic in the opposite direction had been allowed.
As reported by Debkafile on Saturday, Feb. 19,
Iran made no secret of its plants to expand its naval and military presence beyond the Persian Gulf and Red Sea to the Mediterranean via Suez: On February 2, Iran's Deputy Navy Commander Rear Admiral Gholam-Reza Khadem Biqam announced the flotilla's mission was to "enter the waters of the Red Sea and then be dispatched to the Mediterranean Sea."

Iran is rapidly seizing the fall of the Mubarak regime in Cairo and the Saudi King Abdullah's falling-out with President Barack Obama (see debkafile of Feb. 10, 2011) as an opportunity not to be missed for establishing a foothold along the Suez Canal and access to the Mediterranean for six gains:

1. To cut off, even partially, the US military and naval Persian Gulf forces from their main route for supplies and reinforcements;
2. To establish an Iranian military-naval grip on the Suez Canal, through which 40 percent of the world's maritime freights pass every day:
3. To bring an Iranian military presence close enough to menace the Egyptian heartland of Cairo and the Nile Delta and squeeze it into joining the radical Iranian-Syrian-Iraqi-Turkish alliance;
4. To thread a contiguous Iranian military-naval line from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea through the Suez Canal and the Gaza Strip and up to the ports of Lebanon, where Hizballah has already seized power and toppled the pro-West government.
5. To eventually sever the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, annex it to the Gaza Strip and establish a large Hamas-ruled Palestinian state athwart the Mediterranean, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea.
By comparison, a Fatah-led Palestinian state on the West Bank within the American orbit be politically and strategically inferior.
6. To tighten the naval and military siege on Israel.
I am more convinced that ever that we are witnessing the approach of Psalm 83, what I believe to be the trigger event for Ezekiel 38 and 39. How quickly it plays out is in God's hands. For certain, there are a few things we can do in the face of events with Biblical proportions.
1. Pray for an increase in the spiritual awakening toward Jesus that is taking place in the Muslim world. God loves the entire world and died for every lost person.
2. Stay strong in your faith in Christ, the Word, and your witness for Him to everyone. Now is the time to broadcast the good news.
3. Pray for Israel, God's covenant people. May their hearts be open to the truth of their Messiah.

Is America on the way OUT of the Middle East?

Egypt's successful protest movement has clouded the true danger present in the Middle East.
It is correct to say that the protests were carried out by an odd coalition of people, all seeking change. We saw Christians marching beside Muslims. We saw students, clerics, and peasants side by side in bringing down the Mubarak dictatorship. Of course, in the background, was a more sinister element headed by the Muslim Brotherhood.
However, most people in the West, including the leadership of our government, are seeing the other protest movements through the Egyptian prism, and that is flat out dangerous for the United States and Israel.
The violent protests and reactions taking place in Bahrain, Yemen, Libya, and Saudi Arabia are not democratically directed movements. They represent the rise of Shi'ite Muslims against the ruling Sunni parties in each of those countries. Shi'a Islam is gaining ground rapidly, and the culprit behind the chaos is none other than Shi'a dominated IRAN. If this wave continues, and the Sunni-led governments of the above mentioned nations fall, America will effectively be jetisoned from the Middle East. Iran will have won the war without even fighting. In fact, Mahmoud Ahmadenijad has hailed the current revolutions as an outbreak of the Mahdi, Islams 12th Imam....or Messiah. According to Ahmadenijad, the Mahdi is soon to arrive to judge the infidel and turn the entire world into his personal caliphate. This is what we are facing.
Take Bahrain for instance. This island nation serves as the base for the U.S. Fifth Fleet, which oversees more than 30,000 U.S. personnel across the region. The Fifth Fleet is responsible for operations in the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, Yemen, Somalia, and East Africa--a crucial and unstable region. Bahrain also hosts land-based U.S. Patriot missile installations. What's more, Bahrain is located directly across the Gulf from Iran. Should the US be ejected from Bahrain, Iranian missiles will have a much easier time reaching their target without Patriot intercepts.
It is certain the unrest in Bahrain could have a destabilizing effect on the wider region. Israel will be completely isolated. Remember, Barack Obama is doing his best to marginalize the Jewish state. His reasons are known only to him, but his policies are soon to bring forth a curse upon his own country.

Israeli Mistake?

It appears that Benjamin Netanyahu has made a slight miscalculation. His call request for the Egyptian military to do something about the unrest in the Sinai, being caused by Bedouins and the Islamic Jihad movement, has received a response he had not bargained for.
Over the last two days, Egypt has poured 4000 troops into the Sinai and are poised opposite an Israeli military presence that is woeful at best. Because of the thirty years of peace enjoyed between Israel and Egypt, the IDF has relied upon its counterpart to police the Sinai, including the intricate tunnel system into the Gaza Strip that is known as a pipeline for arms.
Netanyahu had accompanied his request with a call for Egypt to close down the Suez Canal to Iranian warships. That call has gone ignored.
The Jerusalem Post is reporting today that other ominous elements are involved in this sudden build up of Egyptians on Israel's southern border.

"Israel's easy and unconditional consent to an Egyptian military presence in Sinai paved the way for Cairo to ignore Israel's concerns about permitting an Iranian war flotilla pass through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean and up to Syrian military ports, even when an Israeli request to deny Tehran permission was routed through and supported by Washington. The military rulers brushed Israel's request aside and did not bother to reply.
By Friday, Feb. 18, Jerusalem had discovered that Cairo's explanation for its North Sinai deployment was the need to guard from further attacks the pipeline supplying Israel and Jordan with gas, which was blown up by Hamas on Feb. 5, was nothing but a pretext. For now, Egypt is not repairing the damage or offering to resume supplies. The Netanyahu government missed its chance to make consent for the troop deployment contingent on the resupply of gas."
Seemingly, in just a three to four week period of time, the status quo in the Middle East has gone out the window. Secularly speaking, no one seems to know what is going to happen next.
This is why we must be aware of Bible prophecies that speak directly to what is happening at the moment, and what is soon to follow.
Here are a few passages (chapters) that demand your perusal.
Psalm 83
Isaiah 17 and 19
Exekiel 25, 38 and 39
Zephaniah 2
Zechariah 9
Joel 3

Obama Slaps Israel Again

Amid the growing chaos in the Arab world, Barack Obama is intent on keeping an issue alive that was a non-issue in the first place. I'm referring to Obama's introduction of Jewish settlements in their capital of Jerusalem as a primary blocking point in negotiations with the Palestinians. With growing evidence that Iran is behind the clashes in Bahrain, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia the president has narrowed his focus on finding another way to chastise Israel and appease Islam. The words of Charlie Brown are appropriate here. "Good Grief!"
This man has an uncanny ability to major on either the minors and to the exact opposite of what he should be doing. America's last friend in the Middle East is Israel, but the president seems to go the extra mile in pushing them away. He has no understanding of loyalty, let alone any inckling at all that to abandon Israel removes any hope of Biblical blessing. Rather, Obama seems to be seeking a full-blown curse. (Read Genesis 12 if you want to understand how God feels about those who stand against his covenant people, Israel)
Now, Obama has gone to the mat for the Arab world, and Israel is suddenly the criminal. Read on.

In sharp reversal, U.S. agrees to rebuke Israel in Security Council
Posted By Colum Lynch Wednesday, February 16, 2011
The U.S. informed Arab governments Tuesday that it will support a U.N. Security Council statement reaffirming that the 15-nation body "does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity," a move aimed at avoiding the prospect of having to veto a stronger Palestinian resolution calling the settlements illegal.
But the Palestinians rejected the American offer following a meeting late Wednesday of Arab representatives and said it is planning to press for a vote on its resolution on Friday, according to officials familiar with the issue. The decision to reject the American offer raised the prospect that the Obama administration will cast its first ever veto in the U.N. Security Council.

Still, the U.S. offer signaled a renewed willingness to seek a way out of the current impasse, even if it requires breaking with Israel and joining others in the council in sending a strong message to its key ally to stop its construction of new settlements. U.S. officials were not available for comment, but two Security Council diplomats confirmed the proposal.

The Palestinian delegation, along with Lebanon, the Security Council's only Arab member state, asked the council's president late Wednesday to schedule a meeting for Friday. But it remained unclear whether the Palestinian move today to reject the U.S. offer is simply a negotiating tactic aimed at extracting a better deal from Washington.

Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, outlined the new U.S. offer in a closed door meeting on Tuesday with the Arab Group, a bloc of Arab countries from North Africa and the Middle East. In exchange for scuttling the Palestinian resolution, the United States would support the council statement, consider supporting a U.N. Security Council visit to the Middle East, the first since 1979, and commit to supporting strong language criticizing Israel's settlement policies in a future statement by the Middle East Quartet.

The U.S.-backed draft statement -- which was first reported by Al Hurra -- was obtained by Turtle Bay. In it, the Security Council "expresses its strong opposition to any unilateral actions by any party, which cannot prejudge the outcome of negotiations and will not be recognized by the international community, and reaffirms, that it does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity, which is a serious obstacle to the peace process." The statement also condemns "all forms of violence, including rocket fire from Gaza, and stresses the need for calm and security for both peoples."

U.S. officials argue that the only way to resolve the Middle East conflict is through direct negotiations involving Israel and the Palestinians. For weeks, the Obama administration has refused to negotiate with the Palestinians on a resolution condemning the settlements as illegal, signaling that they would likely veto it if it were put to a vote. The Palestinians were planning to put the resolution to a vote later this week. But Security Council statements of the sort currently under consideration are voted on the bases of consensus in the 15-nation council.

The United States has, however, been isolated in the 15-nation council. Virtually all 14 other member states are prepared to support the Palestinian resolution, according to council diplomats. A U.N. Security Council resolution generally carries greater political and legal force than a statement from the council's president.

The U.S. concession comes as the Middle East is facing a massive wave of popular demonstrations that have brought down the leaders of Tunisia and Egypt and are posing a challenge to governments in Algeria, Bahrain, and Iran.

Dominoes Tend to Fall

What incredible time we are witnessing! Facebook induced revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt that toppled dictators. Government-shaking protests are spreading.... Bahrain, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia. Monarchs and dictators are quaking!
The Iranian regime is responding with violence. Bahrain is seeking help from Saudi Arabia as multitudes of Sunni Muslims join the Shia-led rebellions. Bedouins across the region are in a major uprising...and they are violent.
Meanwhile, the West joyfully watches believing these protests are the prelude to the spreading of democracy in the Arab world. Obama is taking credit. Bush lovers tout the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as the precursors of democracy in the Middle East. It all looks so good.
Jordan too was rocked by serious street protests, a serious menace to the throne because they are staged with increasing intensity by indigenous Bedouin tribes, the traditional backbone of the Hashemite royal house. Overnight, armed tribesmen blocked Highway No. 1, the main road into the capital Amman, demanding the restoration of lands, which they claim were stolen from them over the years by the royal family and the Jordanian government.
Last week, 36 Bedouin tribal chieftains sent a letter to King Abdullah II with demands that he cede some of his ruling power including the right to appoint prime ministers and ministers and cut down on extravagant royal spending, especially by Queen Rania, when more money should be diverted to helping the poor.
Unrest against the Jordanian king has been simmering for weeks, creating a double problem for his monarchy.
According to Middle East news sources, the Bedouins are making the most noise while the Muslim Brotherhood and the majority Palestinian population are biding their time, waiting to jump in when the see the first crack in the royal stand against the disturbances.
The second problem is more serious. The Jordanian army consists of Bedouin fighters belonging to the same tribes as the protesters out on the streets. The royal security services have the same makeup. A crackdown against the demonstrations could spark a wholesale Bedouin mutiny against the Hashemite royal house or even the first Bedouin coup against a Jordanian monarch.
All of these developments leave the entire region as one massive powder keg, and the fuse has not only been lit, its fire is nearing the powder.
Prophetically speaking, the question is in all our minds. Is this the prelude to Psalm 83 (Isaiah 17 & 19, Ezekiel 25, Zephaniah 2, and Zechariah 9)? In my mind, a vacuum is being created, a void that something will step into, and I don't believe it will be democracy.

Egyptian Military Legitimizes Muslim Brotherhood

You can imagine how Israel's nerves just went on heightened alert as it watches the developments taking place in Egypt, it's lone semi-friend in the Middle East. The fear is a repeat of what took place in the Gaza Strip four years ago when the Bush Administration pushed for democratic elections and the terrorist group, Hamas, stole the show.
I believe it is likely we are about to see history repeated.
Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood plans political party
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
02/15/2011

CAIRO — Egypt's long banned Muslim Brotherhood said Tuesday it intends to form a political party once democracy is established, as the country's new military rulers launched a panel of experts to amend the country's constitution enough to allow democratic elections later this year.

The military is trying to push ahead quickly with a transition after Mubarak resigned Friday in the face of 18 days of unprecedented popular protests that massed hundreds of thousands. The panel is to draw up changes at a breakneck pace — within 10 days — to end the monopoly that ousted President Hosni Mubarak's ruling party once held, which it ensured through widespread election rigging.

Generals from the Armed Forces Supreme Council, which now rules Egypt, said Tuesday the military wants to hand power to a government and elected president within six months, the firmest timetable yet outlined.

The initial constitutional changes may not be enough for many in Egypt calling for the current constitution, now suspended by the military, to be thrown out completely and rewritten to ensure no one can once again establish autocratic rule. Two members on the panel said the next elected government could further change the document if it choses.

The military's choices for the panel's makeup were a sign of the new political legitimacy of the Muslim Brotherhood, the fundamentalist group that was the most bitter rival of Mubarak's regime. Among the panel's members is Sobhi Saleh, a former lawmaker from the Brotherhood who is seen as part of its reformist wing.

Democracy and Egypt....an Impossibility

Haaretz reported today that Hosni Mubarak had strong words concerning the ineptitude of American president, Barack Obama. He had harsh words for the United States and what he described as its misguided quest for democracy in the Middle East in a telephone call with an Israeli lawmaker a day before he quit as Egypt's president.
The legislator, former cabinet minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, said on TV Friday that he came away from the 20-minute conversation on Thursday with the feeling the 82-year-old leader realized "it was the end of the Mubarak era".

"He had very tough things to say about the United States," said Ben-Eliezer, a member of the Labor Party who has held talks with Mubarak on numerous occasions while serving in various Israeli coalition governments.

"He gave me a lesson in democracy and said: 'We see the democracy the United States spearheaded in Iran and with Hamas, in Gaza, and that's the fate of the Middle East,'" Ben-Eliezer said.

"'They may be talking about democracy but they don't know what they're talking about and the result will be extremism and radical Islam,'" he quoted Mubarak as saying.

Mubarak pointed to administration failures in reaching out to Iran and their miscalculation with elections in Gaza where Hamas eventually assumed power as evidenced that Washington had no idea what it is about to unleash in Egypt.

Mubarak also had some predictions about the future of the Middle East:

"He contended the snowball (of civil unrest) won't stop in Egypt and it wouldn't skip any Arab country in the Middle East and in the Gulf.
"He said 'I won't be surprised if in the future you see more extremism and radical Islam and more disturbances -- dramatic changes and upheavals," Ben-Eliezer added.

I believe Mubarak's assessment is correct. True representative democracy cannot co-exist with Islam. Though an attempt at democracy may take place in the short term, the end result, and probably very quickly, will be islamist radicalism.

Egyptian Sinai Sudden Concern for Israel

With the loss of a thirty-two year long friendship and peace treaty with Hosni Mubarak, Israel has suddenly found itself in a lurch....what to do about the increasing threat from the Sinai. Reports are that the Egyptian military has refocused its concentration upon the populated region of the Nile, leaving the Sinai to bands of militant Beduins and two terrorist organizations, the Islamic Jihad and Hamas.
Now a 250 mile front, the border between Israel and Egypt in the Sinai figures into the coming Psalm 83 war. (Hagrites are Egyptians, i.e. Hagar the handmaiden of Sarah). The following article in today's Jerusalem Post highlights the sudden and growing danger.

'Egypt losing control of Sinai to Beduin'
By YAAKOV KATZ

Concern is mounting in Israel over reports that the Egyptian police force has abandoned the Sinai Peninsula in face of growing Beduin violence, and that the territory will turn into a breeding ground for global jihad.
According to information that has arrived in Israel, Egyptian police authorities have abandoned dozens of police stations throughout the peninsula after they were attacked by Beduin armed with missiles and assault rifles.
This concern was behind Israel’s decision two weeks ago to allow the deployment of 800 Egyptian soldiers in Sharm e-Sheikh and Rafah.

Additional requests since then have been rejected.

In recent years, the Sinai hasturned into a launching pad for attacks against Israel, including by Hamas, which several months ago launched Katyusha rockets into Eilat from the Egyptian territory.
The Egyptian military has for years encountered difficulty in controlling the Beduin population, which does not hold allegiance to the Egyptian government in Cairo.
“The Sinai is already known as a lawless land,” a senior defense official said over the weekend. “There is real concern that if the Egyptians don’t get the Sinai back under their control, it could develop into a major threat to Israel.”

Israel, which has urged all its citizens to leave the Sinai immediately, is particularly concerned about the possibility that Hamas will take hold of parts of the peninsula and use it to launch attacks into Israel via the 240-kilometer long Israeli- Egyptian border, with an emphasis on Eilat.

There is also concern that without a real Egyptian security presence in the Sinai, Hamas will be able to increase the amount and quality of weaponry and explosives it smuggles into the Gaza Strip via Egypt.

Soros Linked to Muslim Brotherhood in a Partnership of Convenience

From WND
The International Crisis Group, or ICG, which includes socialist philanthropist George Soros among its eight executive committee members, long has petitioned for the Egyptian government to normalize ties with the Muslim Brotherhood.

The ICG also released a report urging the Egyptian regime to allow the Brotherhood to establish an Islamist political party. The ICG includes on its board Mohamed ElBaradei, one of the main opposition leaders in Egypt, as well as other personalities who champion dialogue with Hamas, a violent offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood.

In a June 2008 report entitled, "Egypt's Muslim Brothers Confrontation or Integration," Soros' ICG urges the Egyptian regime to allow the group to participate in political life.

The report dismisses Egypt's longstanding government crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood as "dangerously short-sighted."

The ICG report called on Mubarak's regime to "pave the way for the regularization of the Muslim Brothers' participation in political life," including by allowing for the "establishment of a political party with religious reference." The ICG specifically stressed allowing the Brotherhood to serve as an Islamist party several times in its 2008 report. The ICG and its personalities also long have petitioned for the Muslim Brotherhood to be allowed to join the Egyptian government.

ElBaradei suspended his board membership in the ICG two weeks ago, after he returned to Egypt to lead the anti-Mubarak protests. U.S. board members include Zbigniew Brzezinski, who was national security adviser to Jimmy Carter; Samuel Berger, who was Bill Clinton's national security adviser; and retired U.S. ambassador Thomas Pickering, who made headlines in 2009 after meeting with Hamas leaders and calling for the U.S. to open ties to the Islamist group.

Another ICG member is Robert Malley, a former adviser to Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign. He resigned after it was exposed he had communicated with Hamas. WND reported Malley long had petitioned for dialogue with Hamas.

The ICG defines itself as an "independent, non-profit, multinational organization, with 100 staff members on five continents, working through field-based analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve deadly conflict." Meanwhile, Soros also has other ties to opposition groups in the Middle East.

His Open Society Institute's Middle East and North Africa Initiative has provided numerous grants to a wide range of projects that promote so-called democratic issues across the region, including in Egypt, where the Muslim Brotherhood stands to gain from any future election.
Soros' Open Society also funded the main opposition voice in Tunisia, Radio Kalima, which championed the riots there that led to the ouster of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

In September, Soros' group was looking to expand its operations in Egypt by hiring a new project manager for its Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, which is run in partnership with the Open Society Justice Initiative. The group is seeking to develop a national network of legal empowerment actors for referral of public-interest law cases. Such organizations in the past have helped represent Muslim Brotherhood leaders seeking election or more authority in the country.

Soros himself last Friday made public statements in support of the protests in Egypt, which the Mubarak government has warned will result in the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in the country.

In a Washington Post editorial entitled, "Why Obama Has to Get Egypt Right," Soros recognized that if free elections were held in Egypt, "the Brotherhood is bound to emerge as a major political force, though it is far from assured of a majority." He stated the U.S. has "much to gain by moving out in front and siding with the public demand for dignity and democracy" in Egypt.

He claimed the "Muslim Brotherhood's cooperation with Mohamed ElBaradei … is a hopeful sign that it intends to play a constructive role in a democratic political system."

Soros did not mention his ties to ElBaradei. He did, however, single out Israel as "the main stumbling block" in paving the way toward transition in the Middle East.

"In reality, Israel has as much to gain from the spread of democracy in the Middle East as the United States has. But Israel is unlikely to recognize its own best interests because the change is too sudden and carries too many risks," he wrote.

WND reported this week an Egyptian Islamist terrorist organization founded by the Muslim Brotherhood is re-establishing itself amid the political upheaval in Cairo Both Egyptian and Israeli security officials said the group, Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, is being reconstituted at the direction of the Muslim Brotherhood. Officials affirmed Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya serves as the de facto "military" wing of the Brotherhood, which originally founded Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya.

Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya is suspected of involvement in the 1981 assassination of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat and it took credit for the 1995 attempt on the life of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. It has carried out scores of deadly terrorist attacks, some targeting foreign tourists.

The Muslim Brotherhood seeks to spread Islam around the world. Hamas and al-Qaida are violent Brotherhood offshoots. While the Brotherhood claimed it abandoned violence to push for a peaceful takeover of Egypt, the group's new spiritual leader, Muhammad Badi, recently publicly has called for violent jihad, including against the U.S.

On Sunday, an Egyptian security official was quoted in the news media stating Egyptian troops had arrested two armed Palestinians from Hamas who entered the country illegally from the Gaza Strip. The security official told reporters the men had crossed from Gaza into Egypt's Sinai Peninsula using smuggling tunnels and that they were arrested in a stolen car in the town of el-Arish, near the border, along with three Egyptian smugglers.

The official told the Associated Press the two Hamas men were caught with weapons, hand grenades, two RPGs and about $8,600 in cash. A senior Egyptian security official speaking to WND on Monday said an investigation found the two Hamas men were aiding in the reorganization of Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, which, he said, is attempting to reconstitute itself under the direction of the Muslim Brotherhood. He then said Hamas is helping Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya organize into divisions and to arm itself with weapons currently in the Sinai waiting to be smuggled into Gaza.

Both Israel and Egypt say Hamas has amassed a large quantity of weapons in the Sinai Peninsula, where the Islamist group has been attempting to smuggle the weaponry into Gaza.

Now, the Egyptian security official said, some of those weapons are going to arm the reconstituted Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya.

Brotherhood declares war on U.S.

Multiple prominent U.S. commentators also have been claiming the Muslim Brotherhood is a moderate organization and denying any Islamist plot to seize power.

In November, the Brotherhood's new supreme guide, Muhammad Badi, delivered a sermon entitled, "How Islam Confronts the Oppression and Tyranny."

"Resistance is the only solution," stated Badi. "The United States cannot impose an agreement upon the Palestinians, despite all the power at its disposal. [Today] it is withdrawing from Iraq, defeated and wounded, and is also on the verge of withdrawing from Afghanistan because it has been defeated by Islamist warriors." Badi went on to declare the U.S. is easy to defeat through violence, since it is "experiencing the beginning of its end and is heading toward its demise."
